I Hate Morning Fire Drills: Waking in a Panic

No, there was not a fire in my house this morning, but I did wake in a panic.  Have you ever had one of those mornings where your alarm just does not go off?  You wake up, look over, and ohhhh crapppp it's almost 7:00!!!!   I was supposed to be up at 5:45!!!!  Why didn't the kids wake me?  OMG, the kids overslept too!!!  Everybody out of bed now, we have to be out the door in 20 minutes!!!.

Well, that was my morning this very day.  How did three alarm clocks all not go off?  Not sure, but I think the scenario may have passed like this:

Stress from work and my allergies have me breaking out in hives again.  I guess I should take a Zyrtec before bed.  At least I will sleep well.  I must have done just that and turned off my alarm in the middle of the night.  My boyfriend said I jumped out of bed at one point to turn off the radio, but it wasn't on.

Then there is my daughter's alarm.  She had decided that she was going to change her alarm to go off at 6:00 rather than 6:15, so she was setting it when I left the room after tucking her in.  We determined that she inadvertently reduced the volume of the alarm so low that it could not wake her.

And for my son, I am not sure what happened.  I could have sworn that his alarm was set, but he has a severe cold and is a sleepwalker besides, so lord only knows what happened there.

So, as a result of a series of bizarre circumstances, we all woke up late.  Nothing like starting the day with a total adrenaline rush!!!  Luckily the kids moved pretty quickly, so I did not have to scream too much.  My daughter left the house on time, but my son and I left late.  It is hard work trying to cover bags under your eyes when you have not had your morning coffee and are in a panic.  Luckily traffic worked with me, so I only got to work a couple of minutes late.

Needless to say, when I tucked the kids in tonight, I checked their alarms to make sure they were set properly because I certainly do not want to go through another morning fire drill.

  2. I have had one of these mornings too. Just slept like a dead log throughout! I think most probably due to stress and tiredness during the day.

  4. Me too!!

Although today, we all woke up an hour early and tried to go back to sleep to get enough rest. That didn't work out too well.
