Pssst...Do You Have Any Phosphate?: Looking for Contraband Phospate

Ever since July I have been getting a film on all my dishes.  I have tried a couple different types of dishwasher detergent, but always had the same problem.  So, I went to the internet to research how to get my dishes clean.  Well, as it turns out, phosphates have been banned in dishwasher detergent in Florida since July.  So, I went back online to try to figure out if there is an alternate solution.  I came up with zilch.  Now, I am trying to find contraband dishwasher detergent with phosphates in it.  I hear that the commercial brands may have some, so I checked out my local Sam's Club...nothing.  I wonder if I can import it from a different state?  If you have figured out a solution to the lack of phosphates, let me know, because I am guessing that the film on my dishes is not good for me.

  1. Try adding a cup of white vinegar to the dishwasher before you fire it up. I haven't need to try this specifically with dishwashing, but I do add some to our clothes wash cycle. It helps keep a fabric softener film from building up inside the machine, which can make clothes look dingy and lead to a smelly washing machine.

Don't worry, the vinegar smell dissipates very quickly and is an eco-friendly & economical additive too.

  2. I have tried the vinegar and had the same result. I am trying a product called Lemishine. I will let everyone know if it works.

  3. By the way, the Lemi Shine really works. I need to buy stock in that company.
