Ugly Shoes

I received a gift certificate last week from L.L. Bean.  I have never bought anything from there before  but I was excited because they do have a great reputation.  I received my package on Monday and the kids were horrified as I pulled out what they consider ugly shoes.   I must admit that they are very plain and are not anything glamorous, but let me tell you that they are comfortable and that was exactly what I was going for.  Of course the jokes never end around here because I do have big feet and had to get a 9.5 wide, so they actually look like men's slippers (or boats), but oh well.  The kids don't want me to wear them anywhere that their friends may see them.  Too bad.  I'm going to anyway.  I already wore them to soccer practice and there is a baseball game tonight so they will make their appearance there as well.  I wore them outside with shorts on yesterday to check the mail and you would think that I was going outside naked the way the kids reacted...too funny. 

Do you have anything you like to wear or use that other people think is just ugly?  I am sure I am not the only one.  I guess I have reached that age where I don't care what it looks like as long as it is functional and feels good.  Maybe I should start hanging out with the ladies in the Red Hat Society, because I don't think they would mind.
