Concerned for Those in the Path of Irene

Yesterday we had a blustery day here with winds up to 40 MPH and expect much of the same for most of today.  I cleaned up the yard of palm fronds yesterday and need to do that again today.  I am grateful that Irene stayed off the coast of Florida but I really feel for those that are in the path of the eventual landfall.

I have been through several major hurricanes and many minor ones.  I know that it takes a lot of work to recover and that devestation that a hurricane can bring.  Here in Florida we are not so prone to flooding so we would not have the same concerns as the northeast where that will be a major problem.  Also, the dense populations in the areas that will be hit is a major concern.  I cannot imagine how some place like New York City will cope with this type of event.  We have enough difficulty here and most Floridians have dealt with hurricanes before.

Will the hurricane hit you?  Let me know how you are preparing.  My prayers and thoughts of good will are with you.

  1. Thx Michele. Looks like big friggin' deal: NYC shut down trains for tomorrow, and CT evacuating coastline. We're in a bit, will be fine. Did get gas for chainsaw; expect lots of trees down!

  2. I'm on the outskirts as I type this. I gassed up the car, filled up all the pitchers with water, filled the freezer with extra ice and turned down the thermostat in the fridge and brought in all the outside furniture. She took a turn last night, so it looks like most of the east coast (except my part) will be spared.

We are supposed to head to the beach next weekend, praying (more for the people there now) that there is still a beach (and beach house) to go to!
