I am having a busy week already this week. The kids and I are going on college tours locally Wed & Thursday this week and my daughter has soccer tryouts Wed. & Fri. Besides all that John and I are going on a cruise on Saturday, so that means getting the kids to their dads house late Friday night.
So, not only do I have to shuttle the kids around and make sure all the laundry is done so everybody can pack. I have to make sure all my dress clothes fit for the cruise. Not to mention that I have to make sure the dog has enough food in the house, etc..so John's son will have everything when he house sits. I must admit that I love the fact that John's youngest son is 20 and loves to house sit. I hate leaving the house empty and it is so expensive to board the dog it is a God send we can count on John's son. Did I mention that in the middle of all this, I am still looking for a job?
Well, I guess I had better get started.....

Putting Them to Work
The kids are not happy. I have decided that they need to step up and help do some housework around here. Before they can do their fun stuff, like play on the computer or Xbox or meet up with friends. They each have a major chore every day. Needless to say, I love the help. The only problem so far seems to be whining, of course, and the lack of hard work on behalf of my son. This morning for example, he had to clean the sliding glass door, both bathroom mirrors and the glass door on our entertainment center. He did not do the greatest job on the slider, so instead of arguing over his piss poor job, he also had to vacuum the spare room. Maybe next time, he will actually try to do better. My daughter on the other hand, does a pretty good job. She is currently taking everything off the kitchen counters and polishing the granite.
This week I have had them polishing wood, vacuuming furniture, cleaning ceiling fans, cleaning appliances and I still have a lot of ideas. Too bad they go with their dad for a big part of the summer, or my house would be spotless by the time they go back to school.
I know, I sound like a slave driver. But really, my parents made do much more than this when I was a teen and I turned out just fine (I think). Besides, they are learning skills and the value of hard work, not to mention how much work it actually takes to keep a house up.

Finally!
For years I have been convinced that my hormones have been all screwed up and that is one of the many reasons that I cannot seem to lose weight. Of course, every time I go to the doctor, they just suggest putting me on birth control pills and check my thyroid which comes back in a normal range. The funny thing is that before I had kids and my metabolism and hormones were normal, I never had my thyroid checked, so how do they know what would be normal for me? I'm sorry, but everybody is different and what may be normal for some may not be normal for others (but, I digress).
Anyway, I recently subscribed to Prevention magazine and they are now offering a book on how to balance your hormones. Yeah, finally. Something I can do about it that does not involve prescription meds and doctors that just do not understand. I am so looking forward to getting this book and implementing it. I will keep you guys updated.

Unmotivated
I am having an unmotivated Sunday. John however is very motivated today and has already washed his truck and the dog and is getting mad at me because I just want a day off. Granted, I am still doing laundry today because that is never ending, but I really don't want to do anything else.
The kids are with their dad today and will not get back until about 8:30 tonight, and I want to take advantage of the peace and just relax. Between looking for a job, keeping house and shuttling the kids around, it seems I never get to relax. I guess with the kids being done with school now, I will have to help keep them busy as well. The good news is that we may get some beach days out of that. Also, I want the kids to learn golf this summer too. The kids will be going with their dad part of the summer too, so at least I don't have to keep them busy the whole summer, so that is good.

Friday is the Last Day of School
I cannot believe that this is the last week of school for my kids. My daughter has 6th grade graduation on Friday so I knew she would be finished then. I just received notice that my son is exempt from his semester exams because he made the President's list again, so he will also be done on Friday.
Now, to figure out how they will spend their summer. They will be going with their father for part of the summer, but other than that, I really don't have plans for them. I did not even plan a family vacation this year other than my boyfriend has a timeshare at the beach about 20 miles from us since I do not currently have a job. Oh well, I guess we will just have to make impromptu trips.
What do you have planned for your summer?

Busy Weekend
I had a busy weekend this past weekend. Saturday morning my daughter had a soccer game. Then in the afternoon I had to take her shopping for shoes, slip and shawl for her 6th grade graduation. I cannot believe how much it costs to outfit a young girl for a special event. Good thing I got a deal on the dress. She will look beautiful for her graduation Friday. But then, I may just lock her in her room and home school her. Just kidding (I think).
Sunday, my son had a end of season Bar-B-Que at one of the coaches house. We really had a great time. I got to know some of the parents better and the boys had a great time hanging out. They don't get to spend that much time together outside school, so there was some team bonding going on. It really was a great day.
So, here I am on Monday again trying to catch up on laundry. I had to pull the dryer away from the wall and clean out the dryer vents and had to get John to go on the roof to clean out where it expels. I don't know why they ever started running dryer vents up and out of the roof, I think it must be the worst design ever. Nothing like gravity to help clog the vent.

Try Again
Today my son has another appointment to try to get contacts. Last time we went to get them, he was just starting to get sick and passed out at the doctor's office. We had to wait until he got better to try to get contacts again. Unfortunately he had to end the baseball season without ever getting contacts. I guess there is next year.
I must admit that I am still a little nervous. Since, my son passed out in the doctor's office before, I am concerned that he may do it again. If he does, I guess he will have to stick with glasses that he never wears. So, wish us luck because I would really like him to get contacts.

Happy Monday
I am looking forward to a good week this week since everybody is mostly healthy. Only a couple more weeks of school for the kids and then they will be out for the summer. Have to get together my summer plans. I really wish that we could put together a nice family vacation but I find that hard to do since I am not currently working. I do want to take my son to some local colleges for tours, so I will getting those in when I can.
What kind of plans do you have for the summer?

Almost Recovered
I am on my 5th day of antibiotics and am finally feeling like a person again. It is amazing how it seems like you lose total grasp of everything when you are sick. Now I have a ton of housework to catch up on and have to get the energy back so that I can be productive.
In the meantime, I am participating in Boost My Blog Friday:

Frustrating
I took the kids to the Dr. on Thursday. They did a rapid strep on my son and it came back negative. They took strep tests for both kids to send to the lab. Since my son did not have strep, the Dr. gave me the "just viral" speech.
The kids felt a little better on Friday so the both went to school. My daughter was in a soccer tournament all weekend and didn't feel that great. Both kids are at school today (Monday).
I just received a call from the kids' Dr. office and was advised that my son's lab test came back positive for strep but not my daughter's. Therefore they only wanted to treat my son. I advised them that my daughter was sick off all weekend and had probably contracted the strep after we left the office Thurs. morning. So, luckily I am able to get antibiotics for both kids.
I have also been sick so now I also have a doctor's appointment and hope to get antibiotics too because I definitely have the same thing as the kids. I am a little worried since I don't have insurance how much my appointment and meds will be, but it has to be done.
At least the bright side is that at least we will all start getting better now. In the mean time, I wonder how many people we infected.

Down For the Count
Well, I am officially down for the count. I have definitely caught the cold or flu that my kids both have. Also, since I have severe allergies, my weakened immune system has determined to over activate and I now have hives in 3 places. We are not talking little hives either. I have one whole upper arm that is covered in a hive as big as a dinner plate and it is swollen to a point that I am concerned that my skin is stretched to it's limit.
I have had severe hives in the past and my allergist just had me taking Allegra everyday and Zyrtec as needed, but that did not fend off these monster hives that are extremely painful and make me want to scratch my skin off. It is taking every bit of my will power to not do just that.
I thought I would come up from my medicated stupor (Benedryl-I am sure my liver is cussing me) and post something to explain my lack of posts lately. I will get over this, it just takes a while. In the meantime, I will vow to enjoy my health when it returns.
