Feeling Great

I am on my third day of my detox and I feel great this morning.  It is amazing what a difference a diet can make in just 3 days.  I have only lost 3 pounds, but it feels like a lot more since I do not feel bloated anymore.  I have so much energy right now that I feel like I could go jogging.  I won't though because I have so much housework to do.  So, today is a day of housework.  Oh joy....

If anyone is interested, the detox I am on is using a detox kit I got at the health food store and I cut out all wheat and gluten, corn, peanut butter, red meats, and dairy (whey protein and a small amount of butter is allowed).  So, I am eating lots of fruits and vegetables, protein shakes, brown rice, hormone and antibiotic free chicken, fish and seafood.  Also a small amount of goat cheese is allowed and I look forward to that in my salads.

Busy Summer

I got back from spending a week in Orlando with my sister and her kids.  Anytime we have all 4 of the cousins together, it is always an adventure.  Actually, my niece brought a friend, so the 5 of them had a great time.  I had a little time to relax and spend time with my sis which was nice.  This is the first year in many that I have been able to spend a whole week with them.  I guess there are advantages to not having work right now.

In two more weeks I get to spend time in Cocoa Beach with my boyfriend in his timeshare.  So, needless to say that I am having a busy summer.  It is a good thing too since I would probably not be in the best of moods since I still have not found a job.  At least the vacationing is keeping me in good spirits.

Yesterday I started a detox diet to kick off the lifestyle change that the hormonal diet requires.  I really hope this change fixes my hormones.  I know that the diet will be healthier for me long term so I will stick with it regardless since the only changes really are choosing organic and rarely having any red meat.  It is scary when you start reading about the amount of toxins that are in the average human body.  We even booted most of our tupperware out of our kitchen and replaced it with glass containers.  I will keep everybody updated on how this diet is going.

So, everybody, let me know how your summer is going.

Got Back from an 8 Day Cruise on Sunday

I apologize for not being around lately, but I just got back from an 8 day cruise on Sunday.  Yes, I know, I am completely spoiled since it was John's treat.  Now of course, I am trying to catch up on laundry and housework.  Just John and I went on the cruise, so it was great having some quality alone time.  I did miss the kids though and am happy that we are all back home now.

My sister will be going to Orlando this weekend to stay at her timeshare and the kids and I will be joining her.  Nothing like going from one vacation to another.  The kids are excited about seeing their cousins from Kentucky.  It will be interesting because we will have 6 or 7 people in a 2 bedroom timeshare, I guess I had better find our sleeping bags in case somebody ends up on the floor.

John is not real happy that he will be alone for a week while we are in Orlando.  He will get over it though and maybe he will appreciate us more when we get back.

College Tour University of Central Florida

Yesterday we went on a college tour of University of Central Florida (UCF).  I was amazed.  I took some classes there in the late 90's and I think the campus has doubled in size.  UCF is now he 2nd largest college in the United States with over 56,000 students.  The campus was fairly busy and they are only in the summer term.  I cannot imagine how crowded the campus would be in the fall and spring terms.

The tour was really great though.  Since Florida Tech is such a small school, UCF was a huge contrast.  The amenities that UCF are more glamorous and the campus seemed to have a theme park feel about it.  I am thinking they must have used some of the ideas from the local parks.

The things that we found really great were the fitness center, the modern buildings, the arena and stadium with a designated area for tailgating.  The downfalls of course are the vast number of students, large classes, and the lack of traditions.

Touring UCF and Florida Tech both this week really opened my son's eyes to what college has to offer and the differences that exist between schools.  I am glad that we took some time to complete the tours so that as friends that are graduating and discuss the colleges they are going to, he may be able to recognize some schools he may be interested in, in addition to just knowing what kinds of questions to ask when he is serious about checking out a school later.

Florida Institute of Technology tour

I went on a college tour of Florida Tech yesterday.  My son is young for college tours, he will only be a sophomore, but I am hoping they set him on the right path.  In addition to the regular college tour, we also took a lab tour.  The lab tour was great because we actually got to see projects that students are working on and a lot of senior projects that were on display.  As it turns out, this really impressed my son and now he is definitely leaning towards majoring in some sort of engineering in college.

Why should a sophomore try to determine the major he wants in college?  Because it totally motivates the kid to take the correct courses in high school to prepare.  Now my son wants to load up in science and math and even take some dual enrollment courses at Florida Tech to get ahead before he even finishes high school.  Also, he will look at his science classes in a new light to determine what type of engineering he would like to go into.  For example, if the is really into physics, he may like mechanical or electrical engineering better than say biomedical or chemical engineering.

I can only hope that he stays motivated.  Today we have a college tour of UCF.  Let's see what kind of impression he gets from this one.
