Planted Three Fruit Trees

I planted three fruit trees this weekend.  I am so excited, I am like a kid at Christmas.  I used to have several fruit trees at my old house and only had a lemon tree here that is not very prolific.  This weekend I got a mango, avocado and a starfruit.  I wanted to wait until my summer settled down so I could baby the trees when I got them.  John is kinda excited too and has decided he wants a naval orange, so I will have to look for one of those at a good price.  I would also like to get a red grapefruit and also nectarine tree.  I used to have a red grapefruit at my old house I dearly loved.

The avocado I got is supposed to be on the bland side which I think is good since I will be able to sneak it into more recipes.  I like the stronger avocados but not in large amounts.  A lady at the nursery tried to talk me out of getting the avocado but I think the bland one will work for me.  Besides, if I hate the fruit, I can still make avocado oil.

John is laughing at me since I am so excited.  He asked me if I had named the trees and I advised him that they came with names.  The trees I got were an Irwin mango, Marcus pumpkin avocado (the avocados are as big as grapefruit) and Kari carambola (starfruit), so they are Irwin, Marcus and Kari of course.  Yes, I am out there.  It is a running joke at my house since my daughter named the 5 trees in our backyard when she was about 7.

Uncomfortable

Last night John and I went to his sister's house for dinner.  John's youngest (21 years old) and John's mother were also there.  Dinner was very nice and I really like John's family.  John's sister just recently retired so she is going through her house and founds old movies of the family.

Well, everybody decides that they want to watch a film of John's youngest when he was about 4 when he first learned to swim.  They were all at the time share at Cocoa Beach and it was nice to see John's boys when they were young and even to see John young.  The uncomfortable part was that John was married at the time and just watching the interaction of the family unit just seemed awkward to me.  Also, it was filmed at the same timeshare that John currently owns and we just visited earlier this month.  I sat there and watched the film, but just felt weird the whole time like I was spying on John and his ex or something.  I found myself comparing how he treated her as to how he treats me, and that whole thing.

Looking back, I probably should have excused myself from the room and gone to sit by the pool by myself or something.  But, of course, I was concerned that I would be considered rude if I did that.  But, I am thinking that they were rude to show the film with me there.  I don't know.  The whole situation was just weird all around.  Later I did tell John that it was weird to watch the movie and he agreed.  I can't imagine it was real comfortable for him either.

How would you have handled that?  And am I just making a mountain out of a molehill or what?

My Neighbor's Dog Constantly Barks

I have had enough with the little poodle next door.  I am currently not working, so I have this plan that sometime I will actually sleep in.  The little dog has other ideas.  As soon as my neighbor leaves for work, anytime between 7:15 & 7:30 in the morning,  the dog goes into the yard and starts barking.  No, not just a little, but a repetitive bark about every 15 seconds for at least 1 hour but usually several hours every morning.  So, needless to say, I am up before 8:00 most mornings.  Of course I am so pissed off by the little dog, I usually have choice words for it and have a desire to string it up on the fence.  No, I am not normally a violent person, but don't mess with my sleep!!!

I feel sorry for the house on the other side of my neighbor because they don't have insulated windows.  At least our house has that.  I cannot imagine how loud the little bastard would be if I didn't have those windows.  Of course, that house is for sale, so maybe they are trying to escape the little demon dog!

I have mentioned to my neighbor that her dog barks and she tries to keep the dog quiet when she is home, but that is not enough to help my sleeping schedule.  The dog has not always had this problem, but it started after my neighbor was widowed about 2 years ago.  So, I guess the little dog misses his Daddy.  Poor thing, and hear I am wanting to torture it....

Oh well, I guess I will just have to be an early riser for the rest of summer.  My daughter starts school in a couple of weeks, so then any fantasy of sleeping in will be squashed at that time.

Have to Wait for Learner's Permit

My son is not happy.  I was given misinformation and was told that he did not need his social security card if he had his passport with him to get his learner's permit.  I offered to take his SS card to his dad's and then I find out that the parent who resides with the child is supposed to take him to the DMV.  So, he will have to wait until he gets back from his dad's house in August so that I can take him to the DMV.  The good news is that he will have time to take the road rules test online so all we have to do is handle paperwork and a vision test to get his permit when I take him.

Tomorrow My Oldest Turns 15

Tomorrow my oldest turns 15.  He is currently with his dad so I will not get to see him for his birthday.  It always seems that my ex has both kids for their birthdays...which really sucks.  My ex is supposed to take my son down to the DMV tomorrow though so my son can take his test to get his driving permit.  Yes, in Florida they can get it when they are 15.  I guess I will be giving driving lessons soon.  My son is pretty level headed so I don't think we will have any problems with that.

Trying to get caught up on housework and getting ready for school to start for my daughter when they return.  My son's school starts almost 2 weeks after my daughter's school starts so it will be nice to spend some time with him.  I am sure there will be driving lessons involved.  I will enjoy it because I know it won't be long before he is off to college.  Time goes so fast....

Kids Go To Their Dad's Tomorrow

Trying to deal with the fact that the kids go to their Dad's again tomorrow.  I will not get them back for another 2 weeks.  Luckily, I got most of my daughter's school shopping done since she starts school 3 days after she gets back.

I guess the good news about it is that it will be easier to plan my meals while they are gone.  Currently, I am trying to not eat any beef or port and only antibiotic/hormone free chicken.  Because I cannot afford to feed the kids the expensive chicken, I have been eating regular chicken with them and making myself a separate meal when they eat red meats.  I must admit that I feel pretty good on this diet (lifestyle change) and have already lost 10 pounds.

I Am So Not Ready for This!

Last week we were at at timeshare in Cocoa Beach.  And the conversation came up that my 12 year old daughter wants to start wearing a bikini like the other girls her age.  Up until that point, she has always worn tankinis.  And of course, I took her out to get a bikini, though I did make her pay for it herself since I would not pay for something that would make guys look at her.  Yes, I am that bad.

When we were in Orlando with my sister, I was watching the 20+ year old guys check out my daughter then and I was ready to have a heart attack.  Now that she will be wearing a bikini I imagine there will be even more guys checking her out.  Lord help me, I will need therapy.

Back in the Saddle Again

I have finally recovered from all my vacations this summer and neglected my blog for much of it.  I know, shame on me, but now I am back.  I have a ton of blogs to catch up on and I will start posting to mine regularly again.  So, I am back in the saddle again.

I must say that I really did have a great time spending time with family, but it's time to get back to a schedule and live in the real world again.  (Yes, blogging is the real world for me).

For an update, the kids are gearing up for school and my daughter has already started soccer for the fall.  Now, off to research some sales for school clothes.

Thank Goodness that is Over!

Yes, I am talking about the Casey Anthony trial.  I am so sick of seeing that whole mess.  Living in Central Florida has been a nightmare during the trial.  Every single local TV station has been tuned into the trial since it had started.  Not that I watch much daytime TV, but I will be happy to get news other than what is going on in the trial.

I must say that there must have been a boon to the local newspapers, because that is the only source of any local news.  Of course, national and world news were not being covered well either since CNN, MSNBC and Fox were all carrying the trial.

Meanwhile I find out today that part of Africa is dealing with the worst famine they have seen in 60 years and that 10s of millions of people are starving.  Gee, I think that should have trumped the whole Casey Anthony trial!

Now, media, it is time to get back down to business and stop focusing on just one person.

Still Detoxing

Of course after my last post about how great I felt, I got dealt a bad round of allergy reactions.  I was down for the count for about 3 days feeling like crap with huge hives.  I guess my immune system didn't like that my body was flushing all the toxins in my system and I must have been on toxic overload.

I am back to feeling good now.  I have lost 5 pounds since Sunday, so I am really happy about that.  Woohoo.  I still have one more week to go on the detox and then I will start re-introducing some foods back into my diet.  Unless I decide to carry out the detox longer, which I may very well do.  I must admit that I am having no problems at all in the way of cravings or not feeling like I have much to eat.  The only thing that I really miss is corn and cereal.  I guess it would be nice to be able to eat tortilla wraps too, but they are not necessary.

I have no plans this weekend other than to spend some time with my honey.  The kids are still at their dad's house, so I miss them.  I will get them back on Thursday.
