I am having a blah holiday season this year. I am under pressure to find a job, but that is easier said then done. The kids are with their Dad for 9 days, so I am missing them a lot.
The good news is that it finally cooled off, so it feels more like winter around here. I did get to spend some time with my sweety which was really nice. He is pretty wonderful. I also got to spend some time on the video game that I am currently addicted to, so I have been wasting time on that.
How was your Christmas? Any plans for New Years?
I am not making resolutions this year.

Way Too Warm Here
It is way too warm here. I am having trouble getting into the holiday spirit when it is in the upper 70's. I don't have to have cold weather for Christmas, but cool would be nice. I would at least like to wear pants and a long sleeve shirt.
Another problem is that I really don't want to have to turn on the air conditioner to bake my Christmas cookies. The house gets so warm with the oven on all day, that it would be much nicer if it was cold outside so that weather would not be an issue.
I was already having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit due to having limited funds (long term unemployed) and with the fact that the kids will be with their dad for Christmas day. I really am trying to stay out of the Bah Humbug territory, but have not hit the normal happiness that I usually have during the holiday season.

My Inner Geekdom Has Been Revealed!
This past weekend my kids have determined that I am a total geek. They have suspected it in the past, but were never sure until recently. My video game playing has consisted of solitaire, tetris and in the past year Age of Empires II. My kids thought it was weird that I played Age of Empires, but as far as geekdom, it is not too bad because it is a conquering game in addition to a simcity type game where you build cities, ect. So on a scale of geekdom it is probably a 6.
Well, all hell broke loose when my son picked up the game Skyrim last week. I knew about the game and longed for it, but could not shake my matronly ways and purchase it for myself. I was rather surprised in fact when my son purchased it because in the past he has always been into sports games (Madden & baseball) and futuristic and realistic shooter games (Call of Duty, etc...).
As it turns out, I totally had to try Skyrim and now I am hooked. I am terrible with the XBox 360 remotes (who friggin designs those?) I mean really, 2 joysticks, 2 triggers and about 15 other buttons. The first hour I couldn't get my character to walk in a straight line. I still move in a jerky motion which drives my son nuts, but he will get over it.
The kids laugh at me, while my son is amazed about my knowledge of the different smithing skills of elves and dwarfs. I think that they thought the game would be way over my head, but they forgot that ole mom had a life before they were born and played D&D as a teen and then video games before I was known as "Mom". Oh the horror..., mom playing a video game.
So now, my kids tease me relentlessly. It doesn't bother me though, because I know that I am a geek and I don't have a social life that has to impress people. My kids on the other hand think it is terrible that mom is playing Skyrim. And to make matters worse, she sucks at it (really, special sequences for combat moves?) and that doesn't bother her a bit.
I play in slow mo, checking every victim for gear and not letting a leaf be unturned while my son moves through the game in a path of destruction. Meanwhile my character is harvesting flowers to learn their uses for alchemy. Of course, it will take me forever to finish the game, but that is not a big deal to me, because I enjoy it. I will admit however that I like finding items and locations that my son did not find, because he didn't have the patience to search carefully. So, he is going back to locations and finding that lever he missed that opened up new rooms. He enjoys that I am helping his character get better, but is annoyed that I am better at finding stuff. Of course, his combat abilities blow mine out of the water, but who cares, it's just a game.
So, I shout of to the world, "I Am A GEEK" (as my kids are cowering in shame) and scramble to get some housework done so I can go back to the game.....

I Need to Bake Again Already?
I baked a bunch of cookies on Wednesday for my son's schools cookie party on Thursday. I had baked enough to have some at home too. I thought I had enough cookies to last through the weekend, but I guess I was mistaken.
Lately, the kids do not seem to be eating very much, but I guess that must have been because there were no homemade cookies in the house. Suddenly they seem to be ravenous and are inhaling cookies. I am not limiting them since they are old enough to know better. If they end up feeling ill or cannot fit into their clothes because they overindulged, then they will have learned their lesson. I don't think either of those will be an issue though because my daughter is practicing soccer 3 times a week and has P.E. every day and my son has started conditioning for baseball in addition to having PT for JROTC. So, they are very active.
I guess I will just have to bake more today. I guess that is one good thing about staying home, I can bake at will....

Unproductive Weekend
I pretty much had an unproductive weekend because I have been sick off and on. I have been having to take migraine reliever to get rid of persistent headaches and have had an upset stomach for most of the weekend and only want to sleep. I am hoping that I can get out of this funk soon so that I can get some laundry done and start baking my Christmas cookies. I am supposed to take cookies to my son's school on Thursday, but do not want to bake cookies if I am not healthy.
Luckily, I have most of my holiday shopping finished and only need to purchase a few things online. I do need to take the kids shopping to get something for John, but that should be pretty easy.
How was your weekend?
