Election Day!

Thank goodness, election day for the Florida Republican Primaries is finally here.  I will be voting after I drop the kids off at school this morning.  I must say that I am relieved that election day is finally here.  I am sick of getting inundated with commercials for Romney and Gingrich.  Though I must admit that I have only received mail from the Romney campaign and anti-Gingrich mail from a source that is not obvious on the literature.  I have received recorded phone calls from 3 of the candidates, but not Ron Paul.  I will say though, that the Ron Paul supporters seem to be the ones carrying signs out on the street corners though and have been for weeks before the South Carolina voting was done.

Watching the news last night, they stated that more than 600,000 people have already voted from early voting and absentee ballots.  So, those early voters may actually be deciding votes for today's election.  That should be interesting since those votes were cast before the big push by the Gingrich campaign.  My prediction is that all 4 candidates will be neck and neck. Granted Romney and Gingrich dumped the most money into Florida, but Florida is a major bible belt state, so Santorum should do well.  And, Ron Paul has the most unshakable grass roots effort going in years and the young people like him, so I think he will show stronger in Florida than people think.  I am not sure who will win, but I don't think anybody will win by an significant margin.  In fact, I would be surprised if any candidate gets less than 20% of the vote.

I guess I will know if my prediction is good by tonight.  How do you think this vote will turn out?  And what do you think is the good, the bad and the ugly about all this campaigning?

Last Friday....and over the Weekend

I posted last Friday about how weird my morning was, especially with the police being at my daughter's school.  It turns out that there was some threat of a shooting at the school.  The local paper was not real clear of the threat and it was never on the news that I saw.  The school did call parents with a recorded message saying there was a threat against the school but did not get details.

As far as details, my daughter heard that an individual teen in the 8th grade (who is supposed to be in 10th grade and was held back a few times) made a threat that he was going to shoot up the school.  However, I heard from another parent that supposedly gang members were planning to go to school and shoot up the school.  So, I don't know what the real story was...but no one was hurt.  The newspaper did report that they searched the home of a male student and that he was being disciplined.  Everything is supposed to be back to normal now, though, with middle schoolers, I am sure they will drag the drama out as long as possible...

Some good news this weekend,  Team Dylan had a bake sale during a local soccer tournament and did pretty well.  Also Dylan's family was able to move into the Ronald McDonald house, so they no longer have to foot a hotel bill on top of medical bills.  That is a God send since Dylan's mother cannot telecommute for her job and had to take an unpaid leave of absence in order to get her son treatment.

Please pray for Dylan and his family.  He is scheduled for his bone marrow transplant on Valentine's Day.  If you would like to donate to Dylan, there is a button on the margin of this blog to do so.  If you want to donate to a cause that helps numerous children and their families I would suggest donating to the Ronald McDonald houses.

Wierd Morning

This morning has been strange.  I am out of sorts, but that is not all that unusual in itself since I stayed up late last night watching TV.  John is out of town, so I felt like a kid with no bed time.  I stayed up later than I should have.

On the way to my daughter's school this morning, we just missed seeing a bicyclist getting hit by a car pulling out of a day care parking lot.  That was kinda wierd.  They guy seems shaken up, but he was walking and visually I could not tell if he was injured.

Then, when we get to my daughter's school, there are 3 police cars out front and no kids in front of the school.  I drop my daughter off at school about an hour early because my son has to be at school earlier than she does.  She gets to school an hour early and he gets picked up an hour late (on non-practice days). Since my daughter's middle school does not start until 9:30, there are a lot of kids at school by 8:30 or so because their parents drop them off before they have to go to work.  Anyway, when I drop her off there are police officers at the gate to the school directing all the kids into the cafeteria.  Then at the other entrance to the school is a sign telling everyone to use the main entrance (where the police officers are).

I came home right away and checked all the local news stations and online news to see what is going on.   I could not find any news or anything, so I am curious as to what is going on there.  Now I wonder how the rest of the day will go.  I am staying home today and baking for a Team Dylan bake sale tomorrow, so hopefully, my day will be uneventful the rest of the time.

Can It Just Be Over Already?

If you live in Florida, you know what I am talking about, the Florida Republican Primaries of course.  The Gingrich and Romney mud slinging are so bad that I feel filthy and need a shower.  If I liked either candidate before, I certainly would not now.  Is this really how politics is run?

At this point I would rather vote for Mickey Mouse, because at least you know he is a mascot and when he plays Mickey Mouse, at least he is consistent.  Of course, you don't know who is behind the mask, but neither do we really with these candidates either.

By the time they get done ripping each other apart, neither will be credible enough to take on Obama.  Everyone I speak to has such little faith in the system right now, that I don't know what to expect from this election.  More of the same?  I hope not, but where is our good alternative?

I am counting down the days until the actual vote so Florida will stop being violated by slimey politicians.  Lord help us all....

Team Dylan

All my regular readers know that my daughter plays soccer.  The soccer team is one big family and now one of the family needs help, so I am bringing the news to my blog for any help we can get.

Dylan, the 6 year old brother of one of the girls has been diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy and is in need of a bone marrow transplant.  Fortunately, they found a donor match, but the special treatment that is to be administered out of state is still going to cost the family a lot of money.  They have set up an account to help with those bills through the Children's Organ Transplant Association and we are trying to raise funds to cover the expenses.  If you are able to donate, please go to the button on the right margin of this page to do so.

If you are not able to donate, please assist us in praying.  There is also a local bone marrow registry and blood drive set up on Dylan's behalf.  If you can attend that, please do.  If you are not local, please donate blood in your own community and participate in the bone marrow registry as you could save numerous lives.  Bloggers, feel free to put this advertisement for fundraising on your blog too, together we can save Dylan's life.

HOW CAN YOU HELP SOMEONE LIKE DYLAN?

Dylans’s Story
Like many 6-year-old boys Dylan loves playing soccer and baseball. He also enjoys school and even spent an entire summer reviewing math flashcards for fun. When he began having trouble in school his parents thought he may be having difficulty hearing, so they took him to the doctor.
An MRI revealed that Dylan suffered from a rare genetic disorder called Adrenoleukodystrophy and his best shot at a cure is to have a bone marrow transplant.
You can help other patient’s just like Dylan by joining the National Bone Marrow Registry and getting on the Big Red Bus on January 27th at Lockmar Elementary School.

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

I am trying to get back into the swing of things.  With the kids home for so long for Christmas break, I am just now getting caught up with house stuff.  I am currently the Mom Taxi though with my son in baseball and my daughter in soccer. I guess that just goes with the territory.

I really liked having the kids home for the break, but I must admit I like having my house back to myself again.  Of course, I don't have it to myself for the whole day.  By the time the kids get dropped off for school I only have an hour or so until John comes home for lunch and then he is off work at 2 or 3 everyday.  So, in reality, the longest block that I have the house to myself is only about a 3 hour block of time.  Usually I am out running errands on that time though or getting prep work for dinner completed.  It just seems like there are not enough hours in the day.

My Son is Still on Winter Break

Here it is January 10th and my son is still on Christmas Break from school.  He was exempt from his semester exams which were after the break, so he got an extra 2 weeks off since he didn't have to go to the exam reviews either.  He finally will go back to school on the 17th.

He is going to baseball practice at school this week however, so he is not home 24 hours a day (thank goodness).  I can tell that he is starting to get a little stir crazy though and has been acting like a total GOOF (caps intended).  If I were a cruel mom, I could take video and probably make some money on YouTube with some of the crazy behavior he has been exhibiting.  Let's just say that I have been entertained to say the least.

My daughter went back to school yesterday, so at least I do not have the two of them home together any more.  She was ready to go back, she was missing her friends.  So, now I am counting down until I get the house back to myself again....
